March 22, 2012 – Three local high schools athletes in the Greater Houston area joined the ranks of high school basketball’s elite with their selection into the 2012 McDonald’s All American High School Basketball West Team.
Announcements came during the Selection Show on ESPNU. They were also recognized during one of the timeouts at the March 22nd Houston Rockets game at the Toyota Center.
The 2012 McDonald’s All American Girls Team boasts an exceptional West roster, including Courtney Williams (North Shore High School, Houston Texas).
The Girls Game begins at 6:30 p.m. CT March 28, and will broadcast live on ESPNU.
"Courtney is highly skilled and plays 1-5 position…she’s a team player first. She was very happy because the hard work that she puts into the game did pay off and …she got something that she was working very hard for (to be a McDonald’s All-American High School Basketball team finalist)," said North Shore High School Basketball Coach Allison Campbell.
The 2012 McDonald’s All American Boys Team features two top prospects from the greater Houston area including Cameron Ridley (George Bush High School, Richmond, Texas) and Rasheed Sulaimon (Strake Jesuit High School, Houston, Texas).
The Boys game tip-offs at 8:30 p.m. CT March 28, broadcasting live on ESPN.
"It couldn’t have happened to a better young man. I think Rasheed is an outstanding young man as well as basketball player. He has exemplified himself in the Jesuit community, classroom, and in the locker room with his teammates," said Strake Jesuit Basketball Coach Wayne Jones.
"Cam is a quiet, laid back guy (off the court). He has progressed so much from his sophomore year to be where he is right now. His maturity has led him in the right direction to becoming a McDonald’s All-American. He has worked so hard at being the best at all that he does and …we are all happy for him," said George Bush High School Coach Ronnie Courtney.
Since 1978, more than a 1,000 male and female players have competed in the McDonald’s All American Games, forming an elite list of basketball stars. This year, in celebration of the 35th Anniversary of the first Boys Team, the McDonald’s All American Games unveiled its list of 35 of the Greatest McDonald’s All Americans.
