An Iowa soldier serving in Iraq is able to listen to his son’s high school football games thanks to the kindness of strangers.
Listening to his son’s junior varsity football games via the Internet brings a touch of home to Von Miller. Miller has been a member of the Iowa National Guard for 28 years. He’s also been his son Jake’s coach in life and in sports.
Jake Miller says knowing his dad is listening to his games at Southeast Polk High School makes him feel closer to him.
And it is all thanks to a couple of football fans who broadcast the games on something called pressboxradio-dot-com.
The crew at PRESSBOXRADIO began the year only streaming Southeast Polk High School varsity games. Then they found out Von Miller was listening in Iraq. Now they broadcast the junior varsity too. They say it is for their very special audience member serving in Iraq.
Miller has even checked in with them a few times.
Miller is scheduled to be back sometime next year. And then he can go to his son’s games in person.
