HOUSTON – Lamar senior quarterback Darrell Colbert doesn’t like to lose.

That’s probably why last year’s title game will never leave his mind.

It was a 35-21 defeat to Allen, but 7 months later, Lamar has been picked to go back to state, to face Allen, and once again end up on the wrong side.

Their pursuit of the title starts with 7-on-7, a tournament, which incidentally catapulted Colbert into the spotlight 3 years ago after his freshman year and it’s a tournament that has made a huge difference in his development.

Colbert and Lamar finished 2nd in the 2011 7-on-7 tourney, but since then the senior has blossomed into one of the state’s best signal callers. His confidence has grown, not just in himself, but with his entire team and they know this is their time to win it all.

KHOU 11 Sports reporter Daniel Gotera has the story.
