SPRING - The Texas High school football playoffs get kicked off this weekend and one of the hottest teams heading into the tournament is Klein Collins. The Tigers went undefeated for the first time in school history and they are ready to win another six games all the way to a state championship.
"It's crazy and pretty surreal feeling actually," says senior quarterback Brett Hume. "Being 10-0 is just awesome."
It’s not often that you see teams goes perfect during a regular season and for Klein Collins, that dream seemed far off back in August.
"Well, we knew we had a good football team, but I don’t think you ever expect to go 10-0, even the perennial powerhouses," says head coach Andrew Svoboda.
Especially for a team that didn’t even make the playoffs last year, missing them by just a field goal.
"After last year, we had a lot of heart break so we came in this off-season and worked hard as a team and we really bonded which really helped out,” says Hume.
"We just put in a lot of work in spring training and over the summer to get to the point where we at right now,” adds senior cornerback Xavier Allison.
The Tigers finished off perfection last week by beating Klein Forest 24-2t, but before then, they knocked off three other playoff teams, experience they know will be valuable in the weeks to come.
"They’ve done a great job experiencing success," says Svoboda. "It’s a mature bunch and all the coaches and the coaching staff have done a great job and that’s kind of been our whole thing this year, focus on the next opponent."
"It’s the first time we’ve been in the playoffs since 2004 so its our time and we’re ready to do it for Klein Collins," says Hume.
And they hope the clock doesn’t strike midnight until they hoist a trophy next month.
