ATASCOCITA, TX - They refer to themselves as a “Band of Brothers” and so far, the Atascocita Eagles have proven that a team effort is what it takes to win.
“Its awesome, its what we’ve wished for, for a long time,” says Eagles kicker Pablo Beltran.
This season saw the school win its first ever district title, followed up by Atascocita’s first ever playoff victory, a 43-37 thriller over Chavez in Round 1.
“One moment we’re up, the next moment they’re up,” says Eagles linebacker Jeremy Coleman. “It’s really just a testament to how devoted we are on this team.”
“The playoffs are a different animal and a different challenge so it was good to see the team fight through adversity and get the victory,” added head coach Dean Colbert.
Now, the 10-1 Eagles face their toughest challenge yet; a date with the two-time defending state champion Katy.
“We know we’re under dogs,” says Beltran. “Its been said and the pressure is on them and all we have to do is go out there and play.”
“We don’t really look at them as the great Katy Tigers, defending state champion Tiger football team. We just look at them as another obstacle in our dream,” says Coleman.
“We have a lot to prove and we want to prove that we are a force to be recon with,” says Colbert.
And the brothers hope to do just that on Saturday afternoon.
