New Waverly gets past Shallowater in 2A play

New Waverly has moved to the 2A final game.

AUSTIN -- Joseph Carrington scored 20 points and X'zavious Harrison added 18 to lead New Waverly past Shallowater 69-59 in the Class 2A state semifinals Friday.

New Waverly (32-3) returned four starters from last season's state semifinalist squad and came into the tournament as the No. 1 team in Class 2A. SirHorace Saulsberry added 14 points for the Bulldogs.

Jordan Scaff scored 19 for Shallowater (27-6), including three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, when the Mustangs closed a 12-point deficit to 66-59 in the final minute.
