AUSTIN -- Darius Gardner and Brandon Peters each scored 12 points and Houston Yates outscored Mansfield Timberview 27-2 in the third quarter of a 76-51 win over Mansfield Timberview on Thursday night in the Class 4A state semifinals.
Yates (33-1) started the game with its signature pressure defense and never let up, forcing Timberview (27-11) into 36 turnovers. Yates turned the miscues into 37 points and led by as many as 40 in the fourth quarter.
Yates scored its fewest points of the season but has won six postseason games by an average of 36 points.
J.J. Williams and Cedric Ivory each scored 11 points to lead Timberview, which went 16 of 39 shooting free throws.
