The Yates Lions are loaded with talented offensive players like Brandon Peters who averages 20 points a game.

"His quickness and speed and jumping ability," notes Lions coach Greg Wise. "Just that athletic ability to get to balls that nobody else can get to. As far as that goes ...he's as good as anybody."

And Joseph Young, a son of former 'phi slama jama' great Michael Young, he averages 18 points a game.

"His improvement from where he was as a freshman to where he is now it's just unbelievable," says Wise.

But this highly rated team is actually built around it's swarming defense.

e go like two hours everyday in practice and so that's just basically our thing," says Peters. While Young adds,"Defense wins games .....We play defense we'll win every game ... we'll win state."

That's a pretty bold statement, but that's just how much second year head coach Greg Wise has changed the Lions way of thinking. Still after the game we watched Yates win, Wise wasn't exactly thrilled with his team's performance:

ur press can be 2 or 3 times better than it was today. and it ususally is so tomorrow it's not going to be a good practice"

Well his players say Wise is a great father figure for them and he sure sounded like one in that last statement.
