PASADENA- Even high school girls' basketball is played above the rim. But size is not a factor, if you can shoot the "rock" like Jessica Gonzales of Pasadena Memorial.
"Jessica's an ideal player and an unbelievable shooter," said Coach Barbara Leon.
Jessica always has the "green light", leading the lady Mavericks in scoring, averaging almost 18 points a game, with most of those coming from long range.
"It's really fun," said Jessica, "I get fired up because the fans go crazy, my sister and friends will be yelling and it feels good, pumping me up motivates me to keep getting the ball and shooting."
Gonzales is only 5'5, but she shoots the ball so quickly, even taller players can't reach it.
"When I see Kobe Bryant with that quick release, or T-Mac, she's developed that quick shot. She's not the most athletic girl in the world, but she's worked hard on her shot."
Last weekend Jessica took part in the Rockets' Clutch City Shootout. Although she was nervous, she still managed to tie for first place, canning 12 three-pointers, So taking me out was no problem.
