HOUSTON -- Texans rookie linebacker Brian Cushing stayed home from practice Wednesday with flu-like symptoms.
Coach Gary Kubiak said he believes Cushing will be ready to play Sunday in Arizona.
Kubiak said Cushing called the team's head trainer last night to say he wasn't feeling well.
"So they went to the house and got him to the doctor and basically kept him home for preventative reasons today," Kubiak said. "He should be back tomorrow."The team has been hit hard by the flu in the past week, with tight end Anthony Hill being the NFL's first confirmed case of swine flu. after spending a couple of nights in a Houston hospital. He returned to practice Wednesday.
Safety Eugene Wilson was inactive for Sunday's win against Oakland after becoming so ill he could barely walk.
Dr. Jim Muntz, the Texans team doctor, said Monday that he isn't sure Wilson "had the same syndrome" as Hill. Wilson had body aches, but no fever and was sent home to protect the team. Muntz says Wilson phoned him Sunday night and felt better.
Running back Chris Brown and linebacker Xavier Adibi were also ill Sunday, but Muntz says they had gastrointestinal problems.
Coach Gary Kubiak also hinted that quarterback Matt Schaub was a little under the weather Sunday, but didn't elaborate.
"We've obviously got some guys who are having some issues, and so we're just trying to stay on top of it and do the smart thing with each one here," Kubiak said. "Obviously, it's been an issue here for a few days. It has calmed down. The guys that we've had problems with are back out here today. Hopefully it stops, but I think Brian's going to be fine. All indications, I've been told he's doing fine and he should be back in the morning."
Cushing was Houston's first-round draft pick, 15th overall, out of USC.
