Dynamo can't close out Superliga final

Ever since the Dynamo moved from San Jose to Houston nearly three years ago, the team has had the New England Revolution's number.

Twice the teams have met in the MLS Cup Championship, and twice the Dynamo have prevailed.

But in the Superliga final, an international competition involving teams from Mexcio, New England finally prevailed winning on penalty kicks. Just as matches between the two teams before, the game was closely contested.

The Dynamo scored the first goal in the first half as Nate Jacqua capitalized on a Revolution defensive mistake in the 17th minute.

New England got an equalizer just before halftime as the Revolution were able to work the ball past Dynamo Goal Keeper Pat Onstad.

Then after playing to a scoreless second half things got interesting.

The Dynamo were the clear agressors controlling the offensive play, Brian Ching working some magic setting up a lead goal from Kei Kamara. However the Revolution got a break, and off a set play Sharli Joseph tied the game for New England as the game was now tied at 2 after extra time. So to settle things the match would be decided by penalty kicks.

On more than one occassion, the Dynamo were down to their last shot, only to tie things but finally the Revolution got the stop earning the one million dollar prize which the team will split. New England outlasting the Men in Orange on penalty kicks, 6-5.

Despite being a game between two Major League Soccer teams, the game will not have an effect on the MLS standings, as the Superliga series is a competition outside of MLS league play.
