SMU to retire Don Meredith's jersey during UH game
02:56 PM CDT on Wednesday, October 8, 2008
DALLAS (AP) -- Don Meredith will return to SMU next weekend to have his No. 17 jersey retired.
Before "Dandy Don" starred for the startup Dallas Cowboys and became a popular broadcaster on "Monday Night Football," he was a star quarterback for the Mustangs.
That was from 1957-59.
Meredith keeps a low profile these days while living in Santa Fe, N.M.
He will be honored at halftime of the SMU-Houston game on Oct. 18.
He's be the sixth football player honored, joining Pro Football Hall of Famers Eric Dickerson, Raymond Berry, Doak Walker, Forrest Gregg and Lamar Hunt.
