Rick Barnes to receive John Wooden coaching award

LOS ANGELES -- Texas coach Rick Barnes will be honored with the John R. Wooden Award's Legends of Coaching award in April.

Barnes has guided the Longhorns to NCAA tournament appearances in each of his 10 years at the school. He has a 449-227 career record in 21 seasons as a head coach, including stints at Clemson, Providence and George Mason.
Barnes is tied for third on the consecutive NCAA tournament appearance list at 13. Under him, Texas has produced 10 NBA draft picks, including former Wooden Award winners Kevin Durant and T.J. Ford.
Barnes will receive the award at the Los Angeles Athletic Club in April, when the 2009 Wooden Awards are presented to college basketball's top male and female players of the year.
Barnes joins such previous winners as Tennessee's Pat Summitt, Purdue's Gene Keady, Roy Williams of Kansas, Lute Olson of Arizona and Dean Smith of North Carolina.
