New Haven, Conn. - Rice's record-setting passing combination of Chase Clement and Jarett Dillard have been named the Walter Camp Football Foundation Bowl Subdivision National Offensive Players of the Week for games ending September 27.
Clement and Dillard earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors after the Owls routed North Texas, 77-20. Clement (22-of-28, 298 yards and five touchdowns) and Dillard connected on eight passes for 114 yards and four touchdowns (3, 30, 18 and 4 yards) in the victory.
Clement and Dillard, a member of the Walter Camp 2008 Player of the Year Preseason Watch List, also set the NCAA record for career scoring passes (41) involving the same duo, while Dillard tied the NCAA career record for touchdown receptions (50).
Duke's Michael Tauiliili, a senior linebacker who played at Alief Taylor in Houston, was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Tauiliili recorded a game-high 16 tackles (9 solo) and added one interception as Duke defeated ACC-rival Virginia, 31-3. It was the Blue Devils' first league win since 2004 - a span of 25 games.
Tauiliili forced one fumble and recovered another and made one quarterback hurry to lead the Duke defense, which held the Cavaliers to 304 yards of total offense. Duke (3-1, 1-0 ACC) is off to its best start since 1994 when it started 7-0.
This is the fifth consecutive year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season.
Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
