Rice interviews 3 coaching candidates
09:02 PM CST on Wednesday, January 17, 2007
Rice Athletic Director Chris Del Conte is moving quickly to fill the Head Football Coaching Position vacated last week by Todd Graham.
11 Sports Reporter Matt Musil has learned Del Conte interviewed 3 candidates; former Miami (Florida) coach Larry Coker, Texas State Football Coach David Bailiff, and veteran College Coach Mark Stoops who at one time was an Assistant at the University of Houston.
The Owls are coming off their first trip to a bowl game in 45 years. Under Graham Rice went from 1-10 C-USA laughing stock, to one the competitive teams in the league. Although the Owls lost to Troy in the New Orleans Bowl, Graham was rewarded with a 5 year contrcact extension.
But just 2 days after signing the new deal, Graham bolted to Tulsa to take the position vacated by Steve Kragthorpe.
Del Conte isn't commenting, but Rice could name the new head coach as soon as tomorrow or Friday.
