HOUSTON (AP) - Quarterback Greg Ward Jr. won't play for No. 6 Houston against Lamar on Saturday because of a shoulder injury.
Ward injured his right shoulder in Houston's win over then-No. 3 Oklahoma last weekend but was able to finish the game.
An MRI showed no structural damage to his shoulder, but he missed practice this week before being ruled out on Saturday. The move is likely more of a precaution since the Cougars have a quick turnaround before opening American Athletic Conference play on Thursday at Cincinnati.
Junior Kyle Postma will start in place of Ward on Saturday.
