St. Louis men's basketball uses Find My iPhone to locate allegedly drunk bus driver

St. Louis University men’s basketball coach Travis Ford used an app to locate a bus that left them stranded in New York after the allegedly drunk bus driver abandoned the team on Wednesday night.

The Billikens had just lost, 70-55, to St. Bonaventure at Reilly Center in Olean, N.Y., when they were unable to locate the bus scheduled to take the team to a nearby airport. Players and coaches had stored some of their belongings on the bus already, including Ford’s iPad.

One of his players suggested using the Find My iPhone app, which uses Apple’s iCloud service to locate iOS devices.

“I don’t know any of this stuff,” Ford said at a news conference. “They said, ‘You can do it on your phone.’ I did have it and it worked. Once we found where she was on my phone, they were able to go straight to her.”

New York State Police located the bus about 40 miles away from the arena. The driver, 56-year-old Linda Edmister, had a blood alcohol content of 0.22 --- nearly three times the legal limit --- and she was arrested on suspicion of operating a commercial vehicle while intoxicated.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
