AUSTIN – Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown has received criticism from all angles and there are many that have called for him to either step down or be fired.
On Sunday, that list added a prominent Longhorn great.
Former running back Earl Campbell said that it was time for Brown to step down as head coach of the University of Texas. Those comments sent shock waves from Houston to Austin.
On Monday, the embattled UT head coach responded.
“I was disappointed in the comments but he’s entitled to say what he thinks,” Brown said at his weekly press conference. “One of our guys talked to him last night and some of the things get taken out of context and grows fast nowadays.”
Still, Brown has nothing but respect for the former Heisman Trophy winner.
“Earl has been great for this university and he will always be welcomed here, I mean he is one of if not our best player ever,” said Brown.
The Longhorns travel to Ames, Iowa to take on Iowa State on Thursday night.
