HOUSTON - One day after approving a deal that would renovate Hofheinz Pavilion, the University of Houston Board of Regents met Tuesday afternoon to look over preliminary plans of what the new stadium will look like and everyone hopes the upgrade is the boost the basketball program needs to get back on track.

For 20 years, the home of Cougar basketball has basically gone untouched. But thanks to this week’s news, Hofheinz is getting a multi-million dollar facelift which is estimated to come in around $40-$75 million.

In addition to a new exterior, the building and expansion will include 10 suites, a new scoreboard, four additional video boards, a new workout facility and brand new locker rooms. All of this will definitely help when the coaches try to bring in new players.

The arena is expected to be completed by 2015.

Daniel Gotera caught up with UH officials to see what they thought about the new facilities.
