HOUSTON - Rice athletic director Chris Del Conte has accepted the same position at Texas Christian Univeristy. The school made the official announcment at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
Del Conte has been AD at Rice since June 22, 2006, but sources tell KHOU Sports that he interviewed for the open position in Fort Worth earlier this week. TCU has been looking for a new Athletic Director since their previous one, Danny Morrison left ealrier this year to take the Team President position with the Carolina Panthers.
TCU chancellor Victor Boschini said in a statement Wednesday that Del Conte has "extensive experience and proven ability in collegiate athletics and academic administration."
Under his leadership, Rice has seen significant improvements to its facilities including the renovation of Reckling Park and the renovation of Autry Court at Tudor Fieldhouse. Before coming to Rice, Del Conte had been senior associate athletics director at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ.
No word on who Rice has in mind to be their next athletic director.
