Rice junior Srikar Alla will join teammates Tommy Bennett and Adam Gustafsson in action in the main draw singles competition when the action heats up at the Turkish Airlines $15,000 Futures of Houston on Tuesday at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium on the campus of Rice University in Houston.
Alla qualified for the main draw by winning three times in the qualifying round, but will face a stiff test, drawing the tournament’s top seed, Ed Corrie, in his opening match.
The first USTA Pro Circuit even to be held in since 2002, the Turkish Airlines $15,000 Futures of Houston will get underway at 10 a.m. each day with singles matches on four courts. Those initial four singles matches will be followed by four more and then the opening round of doubles will begin no early that 1 p.m. There is no admission charge for the event.
Doubles competition will run through Friday, October 11, while singles play will conclude on Sunday, October 13.
Live scoring for all matches will be available via the ITF Pro Circuit official website: www.itftennis.com/procircuit. The live web scoreboard, offers point-by-point scores and match statitics, will be powered by Sportradar AG, who signed a four-year agreement with the ITF in 2012 as the worldwide distributor for ITF Official Data.
The Turkish Airlines $15,000 Futures of Houston will also host several special events during the week of competition. . Local junior teams will be hosted in a special Junior Tennis Team Night on Tuesday, October 8 and Thursday, October 10 will be Kids Night. Each special event will run from 5-7 p.m.
Houston last played host to a USTA Pro Circuit men’s event in 2002 and hosted events as well in 2001, 1999, 1984 and 1982. Houston is the first of two consecutive hard-court $15,000 USTA Pro Circuit Futures events held in Texas this month, preceding Mansfield.
