HOUSTON - Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed guard/forward Romel Beck to the training camp roster.
Beck (6-7, 185, UNLV) averaged 9.8 points (.528, 19-36 FG) and 3.0 rebounds in five games (two starts) with the San Antonio Spurs in the 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA SPORTS. In 2008-09, Beck appeared in 16 games (five starts) for the Dakota Wizards of the NBA D-League, averaging 15.9 points, 2.9 assists and 2.1 rebounds. He also played with KK Zadar in Croatia (five games) and Tecos de la UA Guadalajara in Mexico (seven games). Beck's previous NBA stint was with the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2008 NBA Summer League, averaging 10.4 points and 20.8 minutes in five games.
As a collegian, Beck earned Honorable Mention All-Mountain West Conference honors his junior and senior seasons at UNLV. Beck, who averaged 13.9 points in 59 games (48 starts) over his two seasons at UNLV, finished eighth on the school's all-time list for 3-point field goal percentage (.389, 116-298 3FG), ninth in free throw percentage (.800, 152-190 FT) and tenth in 3-point field goals made (116).
In international play, Beck has been a member of the Mexican National Team and participated with Mexico in the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Beck also had a successful 2007-08 season in the Italian League Serie A with Pallacanestro (Cimberio) Varese and Pierrel Capo d'Orlando.
