Former Astros pitcher Mike Hampton could be returning to the club.
The 36 year old lefthander last pitched for the club nine years ago, but there are several reports the Astros have a deal in place waiting for him to take a physical.

Mike Hampton won 22 games for the Astros in 1999.
Hampton made 13 starts for the Braves last season compiling a 3-4 record with a 4.85 earned run average. But his career has been marred by injury.
A year ago he hurt his right hamstring in winter ball, and missed his first start for the Braves in April after injuring his left pectoral muscle just before the game.
Hampton however had some of his best years with the Astros in the late 90's. He won 15 games for the club in 1997 and was on the mound when the Astros clinched the NL Central in the Astrodome.
Two years later he finished second to teammate Randy Johnson for the Cy Young award winning 22 games. Many observers believe the '99 team which failed to make the World Series, had the most talent of any Astros team.
The Astros have not issued any official comment, which is not expected until Hampton signs a contract. It is being reported the one year deal is worth $2 million with an addition $2 million in incentives.
