Houston Astros Team Physician Dr. Tom Mehlhoff has examined Astros outfielder Carlos Lee.  X-rays taken show that Lee’s fractured left little finger has healed.  The splint from Lee’s left hand has been removed, and he is using his left hand normally.

Associated Press

Carlos Lee hit 28 home runs and drove in 100 runs in 115 games for the Astros last season.

Lee will continue a workout routine that includes cardio work and weightlifting, and he will be re-examined by Dr. Mehlhoff in January.  Lee also plans to increase his baseball-related workout activities in January as well, and he is not expected to have any restrictions on activities during Spring Training.

Lee suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch on August 9 at Cincinnati.  He underwent successful surgery on Aug. 11, performed by Dr. Mehlhoff, to correct multiple fractures in Lee’s left little finger, including pins being inserted into the finger.  The operation also repaired complex nail bed lacerations on the same finger.

Lee, 32, hit .314 (137x436) with 27 doubles, 28 home runs and 100 RBI in 115 games for Houston in 2008.   He has reached the 100-RBI mark in four consecutive seasons from 2005-08, and he has hit .290 (1635x5633) with 281 home runs and 1,001 RBI in 10 Major League seasons from 1999-2008.
