Replay used at Astros game: Call upheld, no HR
09:43 PM CDT on Tuesday, September 23, 2008
HOUSTON -- Umpires went to instant replay Tuesday night to review a long drive by Cincinnati's Joey Votto, then upheld their call that it was not a home run.
It was the fourth time this year that replay has been used -- only one call was reversed, with Tampa Bay's Carlos Pena getting a home run.
This was the second replay call at Minute Maid Park. Hunter Pence's double was confirmed against Pittsburgh Sept. 9.
Votto lifted a long fly in the seventh inning that hit the top of the right-field wall. Umps checked to see whether the ball bounced straight back, or hit an empty seat before bounding onto the field.
Votto wound up with a single.
