HOUSTON -- A former trainer for ex-Astros great Roger Clemens asked a judge in Houston today for more time to file documents in a defamation suit.

Brian McNamee and Roger Clemens testified before Congress last February.

Brian McNamee is being sued by the seven-time Cy Young Award winner, who denies allegations of using performance enhancing substances.

Clemens doesn't want the lawsuit dismissed or transferred to a New York federal court.

Attorneys for McNamee want the filing deadline to be extended to September 17th.

U.S. District Judge Keith Ellison did not immediately rule.

Clemens in January sued McNamee after the former trainer accused him in the Mitchell Report of using steroids and human growth hormone.

The case originally was filed in state district court in Texas. The matter in February was shifted to federal court in Houston.
