Astros fans at this barber shop talk about the Miguel Tejada trade.
That is especially true now that the team has acquired Miguel Tejada.
And it doesn’t hurt that he’s Latino.
“Yeah, I think, I guess it will be good for the community,” said Carlos Vasquez who is a barber.
Houston got a taste of Tejada in 2004, when he won the all star game’s homerun derby at Minute Maid Park.
He hails from the Dominican Republic and in Houston’s fast growing Latino community, Vasquez say Tejada also brings pride. “Yeah the pride will be there. Like I said, I hope they can do good.”
The acquisition of Tejada adds to the list of big name Latino Astros players and the organization is expecting he’ll draw large crowds to Minute Maid Park.
Wednesday’s trade is very good news in this family owned barber shop where the love of the Astros has passed from father to son and now to Raymond Vasquez’ grandson. “I take my little boy and a few friends. I’ll be there, I’ll be there this year.”
The Vasquez family can’t wait for the season to start.
