AUSTIN, Texas -- The kick off for X Games Austin is Thursday night on Congress Avenue. Crews spent Wednesday building a ramp and setting up the stage and equipment.

Celebrity skateboarder Tony Hawk will put on a demonstration at 5 p.m. Thursday on the half-pipe in front of the Texas State Capitol at 10th Street and Congress Avenue.

A little after 8 p.m., the real competition gets underway with the BMX vert final. An hour later, skateboarders will take to the ramp for the skateboard vert final. The public is invited to watch the activities downtown for free.

The spectacle in front of the capitol has already attracted a lot of curious Austin residents, but the majority of X Games competitions will happen at the Circuit of the Americas, including the "Big Air" events. Each evening will also feature different musical performances including Kanye West, Flaming Lips and Gary Clark Jr.

With the X Games come some road closures. Congress Avenue is blocked off from Ninth to 11th streets along with portions 10th and 11th streets. The closures will remain in place until noon on Friday. Go here to see the full list of road closures.
