"Love Ya Blue" signed Oilers helmet sells for $2 million

BEAUMONT, TX - It’s believed to be the highest price paid for a piece of football memoriabilia.

A Houston Oilers football helmet signed by all of the original players including legendary coach Bum Phillips went for $2 million dollars Thursday night at a charity auction in Beaumont, Texas.

Once other bidders dropped out Houston Lawyer Steve Mostyn and his wife Amber began bidding against each other for the helmet.

People in the audience including former Oiler Quarterback Dan Pastorini watched in amazment as the bidding went beyond $100 thousand dollars. Amber Moystn ‘won’ with a final bid of $2 million dollars.

The money will be used to build a new residential facility for physically disabled children at the Hughen Center in Port Arthur, Texas.

The record for sports memoriabilia in general was Mark McGwire’s 70th homerun baseball that sold for 3 million dollars in 1999. Next was a $ 2.8 million Honus Wagner baseball card once owned by Wayne Gretzky.
