HOUSTON – Free agent center Dwight Howard is expected to announce that he will sign with the Houston Rockets, according to a report from USA Today on Friday.
The report is quoting an anonymous source that is very close to Howard. Other media outlets have followed up with similar stories, but representatives in Howard’s camp are denying it for now saying the All-star center has not officially made up his mind.
The Dallas Mavericks, the Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Lakers have been told they are out of the running to land Howard, which now leaves two teams – the Rockets and the Golden State Warriors.
Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey responded to the news on Twitter saying the team is cautiously optimistic, but haven’t heard from Howard himself.
If the reports are true, then Hoard would instantly make the Rockets one of the elite teams, not only in Western Conference, but in the entire NBA. Playing alongside guys like All-Star guard James Harden and forward Chandler Parsons would give them multiple weapons to contend for a title.
