THE WOODLANDS, TX — The Insperity Championship presented by UnitedHealthcare will be celebrating its 10th anniversary April 29-May 5 and with just under 30 days remaining, the tournament is already attracting one of the strongest fields on the Champions Tour schedule.
Fred Funk is scheduled to defend his title. Funk won his seventh Champions Tour title on The Woodlands
Tournament Course a year ago by one shot over Tom Lehman. For Funk it was something of a 20th anniversary. It was here he earned the first of his eight PGA TOUR titles in 1992.
Joining Funk will be six past champions of the Masters Tournament being held next week in Augusta, GA as well as eight members of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Masters champions currently committed to the Insperity Championship are: Ben Crenshaw, Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle, Mark O’Meara, Craig Stadler and Fuzzy Zoeller.
World Golf Hall of Fame members include: Hale Irwin, Tom Kite, Nick Price, Curtis Strange, Larry Nelson, Crenshaw, Langer and Lyle.
"I think we all agree that moving to a spring date from the fall last year was a tremendous success," said Bryan Naugle, Executive Director of the Insperity Championship. "Once again we are hearing positive comments from all of the players as they prepare to come here and help us celebrate ten years as a tournament."
In addition to this legendary group of players, 28 of the top 30 on the 2012 Champions Tour money list are also scheduled to compete, including the 2011 and 2012 Player of the Year Tom Lehman.
For the third time in its nine-year history, the Insperity Championship presented by UnitedHealthcare was recognized as one of the top events on the Champions Tour schedule. Last year, the tournament received The Players Award for having "the best of everything" for players, sponsors and spectators. In 2008, the tournament received the President’s Award as the best overall event and in 2011 was honored with the President’s Award for Excellence in Achievement.
