Texans sign four 6th round draft picks

HOUSTON – Four of the nine members of the Houston Texans 2013 Draft class are under contract. The Texans signed sixth-round picks T David Quessenberry, WR Alan Bonner, NT Chris Jones and TE Ryan Griffin.

Quessenberry (6-5, 302) was the first of Houston’s four selections in the sixth round. Taken with the 176th overall pick out of San Jose State, Quessenberry started the final 37 games of his collegiate career at left tackle and earned All-Western Athletic Conference honors twice.

As a senior, Quessenberry earned All-American third-team recognition from the NFL Draft Report, was an All-WAC first-team pick and was a finalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, honoring the top FBS player who began his career as a non-scholarship player. He earned All-WAC second-team honors as a junior and recorded 242 knockdown blocks and 32 touchdown-resulting blocks in his career.

Bonner (5-10, 193) was selected with the 195th overall pick out of Jacksonville State became just the eighth player to be drafted from the school and the first since 1991.

In 44 games, Bonner became Jacksonville State’s all-time career leader in punt return yards (972) and punt returns (87), while ranking second in career receiving yards (1,986) and touchdowns receiving (20). During his senior season, Bonner posted career-bests with 50 receptions for 859 yards and eight touchdowns.

Jones (6-2, 302) was selected with the 198th overall pick out of Bowling Green, where he was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference performer with 157 career tackles, 28.0 sacks, 46 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. A team captain in 2011 and 2012, Jones played in 50 career games and started 43 consecutive games.

He was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year as a senior after recording 42 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Jones finished third in the country in sacks and tied for seventh in tackles for loss.

Griffin (6-6, 247) was taken with the 201st overall pick out Connecticut. He appeared in 48 games for the Huskies, earning Second team All-BIG EAST honors in 2011 and 2012. Griffin caught 116 passes for 1,500 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career.

During his senior season, Griffin was honored as the Huskies’ Offensive Player of the Year after catching 29 passes for 484 yards and a career-high six touchdowns.
