HOUSTON – The Houston Texans are set to play their final home game of the preseason Sunday afternoon.
The Texans will host the New Orleans Saints at 3 p.m. at Reliant Stadium in what is their most important preseason matchup. The game is to serve as the team’s final dress rehearsal for the starters, who are expected to play a good portion of the game.
The Texans are 2-0 the preseason after defeating the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1 and the Miami Dolphins last weekend at Reliant Stadium.
Texans rookie receiver DeAndre Hopkins will sit out Sunday's game after suffering a concussion against the Dolphins. Also, defensive end Antonio Smith is suspended for the game after swinging a helmet at Dolphins offensive guard Richie Incognito in last weekend's game.
Saints and Texans have met in each of the last five preseasons and should serve as a good barometer to see where the team stands with their preparation for the season-opener.
The Texans open the regular season on Monday, Sept. 9, at the San Diego Chargers. The Texans will face the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 29 at AT&T Stadium for their final preseason game.
