HOUSTON – Bob McNair wasn’t the only one excited about Bill O’Brien joining the Texans. The players are also anxious to see what their new coach has to offer.
“I’m excited and I think everyone is,” linebacker Brian Cushing said. “He’s a hard-nosed kind of guy and he’s had a lot of success and that’s something we’re obviously looking for.”
Cushing along with center Chris Myers attended O’Brien’s introductory press conference on Friday. The new coach’s attitude is what stood out to Cushing.
“Maybe this is what the organization needed, to have this much talent and for that to happen is obviously unacceptable,” Cushing said. “We need a little bit of a spark, a little bit of a change and that’s what coach O’Brien brings.”
Cushing wasn’t the only person supporting O’Brien’s hire.
“It’s nice to see,” tight end Garrett Graham said. “He seems like a fiery guy and seems like a great offensive mind and I think he’ll be good for the franchise.”
Graham, who could see a lot of work in O’Brien’s tight end friendly offense, was asked by KHOU 11 Sports reporter Matt Musil about what he thought of O’Brien’s heated exchange with Patriot’s quarterback Tom Brady.
“I think you get excited when you see that,” Graham said. “Obviously, it’s a coach who’s tyring to get the best out of his players regardless of who it is. Maybe we need a coach that can get in your face every now and then to get the best out of his team.”
