Karlgaard has been at Stanford since 2011 after spending six years at Division III Oberlin College in Ohio. According to his biography on the Stanford athletics website, Karlgaard “spearheaded the transformation of varsity athletics, developed facilities, ushered a campus-wide campaign for wellness, and helped restructure support for club sports” while at Oberlin.
He graduated from Stanford in 1996 and received his doctoral degree from the University of Minnesota where he also served as an assistant coach of the men’s cross country and track and field team.
