PASADENA, Texas – The San Jacinto College men’s basketball team is headed to Tyler, Texas, this week for the 2013 Region XIV Basketball Championship, March 5-9 at the Herrington Patriot Center on the campus of the University of Texas at Tyler.

San Jac (23-5) enters the tournament as the number three seed, and will face either No. 6 Tyler Junior College or No. 11 Coastal Bend Community College at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 in quarterfinal action.

San Jac is led by sophomore guard Mohammad Lee (Bronx, N.Y. / All Hallows HS / Chipola College) who averages 19.1 points per game, a mark that ranks second in the league and 23rd in the nation. Lee also leads the team in rebounds, averaging 8.0 per game. Three other San Jacinto College players average double-digit points.

This season, San Jac defeated Coastal Bend twice, and lost its only game against Tyler. San Jacinto College last won the Region XIV title and advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament in 2006.
