HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - James Thomas, Michael Holyfield and Jabari Peters all scored 14 points as Sam Houston topped Houston Baptist 81-63 on Saturday.

Houston Baptist (4-18, 1-9 Southland) led throughout the first half, but Sam Houston (16-6, 8-2) closed with a 12-4 run, highlighted by treys from Peters and Paul Baxter, to take a 39-34 lead into the locker room.

Sam Houston could never quite put away the Huskies though, and a pair of Rob Lewis free throws made Houston Baptist’s deficit 12 with 3:04 left. The Bearkats then scored the final six points of the game to clinch.

Holyfield had 10 of Sam Houston’s 35 rebounds, while Kaheem Ransom scored 13 points and had 10 assists. The Bearkats shot 51 percent from the floor.
