HUNTSVILLE - For the third year in a row, Sam Houston State is headed to the NCAA regionals as an at-large selection.
The Bearkats travel to Fort Worth this weekend where No. 7 national seed TCU (52-9) will host. Sam Houston (41-17) meets Dallas Baptist (40-19) in the first round, Friday at 3:30 p.m. while the Horned Frogs face off with Siena (26-31) at 7 p.m.
“I think it’s awesome. I’m so proud of our team to be in this position to get an at large bid,” head coach David Pierce said. “Every regional is tough but the thing I like about Fort Worth is that it’s a great location for our fans to follow us. We expect an exciting regional and we’re looking forward to it.”
The winner of the Fort Worth Regional will play the winner of the San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) Regional in the Super Regionals. The four teams in that region include the host school, Pepperdine, Arizona State and Sacramento State.
The national top eight seeds are Oregon State (42-12), Florida (40-21), Virginia (44-13), Indiana (42-13), Florida State (43-15), La.-Lafayette (53-7), TCU (42-15) and LSU (44-14-1). The top eight seed for Indiana marks a first for a Big Ten institution.
