HOUSTON – The Rice Owls used a strong effort from running back Charles Ross and their defense to beat UT-San Antonio 34-14 on Saturday at Rice Stadium.
Ross finished the game with 16 carries and 117 yards. The Owls (2-5, 0-3)gained 301 yards on the ground. The Owls started slow, but then in the second quarter, quarterback Taylor McHargue tossed it to Luke Turner who then found Donte Moore for a 38 yard touchdown to put Rice up 13-0. In the second half, the Owls got their ground game going. McHargue ran for two scores and Turner Peterson added one of his own. Rice outscored the Roadrunners (5-1. 1-0) 21-11 in the second half to pull away. Rice travels to Tulsa next week.
