HOUSTON – USA Today reported on Monday that 3 teams had been fined by the NBA for tampering and ESPN followed by saying the Houston Rockets were one of those penalized.

As the report in USA Today noted, a league memo to the teams indicated the league fined the three teams because of respective "statements by a team employee to the media, a team email to prospective season ticket purchases, and articles posted online on a team website, each related to players who are currently under contract to other teams but who will become free agents this summer."

ESPN reports that the Rockets fine was for a small amount.

The Rockets are one of several teams that are being linked to free agents to be Dwight Howard and Chris Paul. On Sunday, the Houston Chronicle reported that the team is hoping to go after both players when the free agency period begins on July 1st.
