HOUSTON – The Houston Chronicle is reporting Houston Rockets center Omer Asik has asked the team to trade him.
Asik, who has seen his playing time shrink with the presence of Dwight Howard on the floor, did not play during Thursday night’s game against the New York Knicks.
The box score listed the reason for his lack of playing time as a coach’s decision.
Last year, Asik had a break-out season after coming over from the Chicago Bulls. He averaged over 10 points and 11 rebounds. This year, Asik is only averaging 5.6 points and 8.1 rebounds in 22 minutes per game.
When the team acquired Howard in the offseason, rumors started to swirl that the team would trade Asik to add another piece.
Asik is making $8.3 million this season and the team would have to match salaries with another team or trade with someone under the salary cap to make the deal work.
