Lowry, 3 others fill out Shell Houston Open field

HOUSTON, TX — Randy Lowry of Spring fired a 7-under-par 65 to win the Shell Houston Open qualifier by two strokes at the Tradition Course at Cypresswood Golf Club.

Lowry posted nines of 32-33 and carded eight birdies to offset one bogey. He birdied Nos. 17 and 18 to break a tie with Paul Haley of Dallas, Steven Wheatcroft of Jacksonville, FL and Michael Putnam of University Place, WA, all of whom shot 5-under-par 67.

Lowry and Haley will be making their Shell Houston Open debuts. Wheatcroft played in 2007, 2010 and 2012 while Putnam played in 2007 and 2011.

A field of 147 players, including 23 PGA TOUR players who had won 41 titles, teed it up in hopes of claiming the final four playing positions available in this week’s Shell Houston Open at Redstone Golf Club - Tournment Course.
