HOUSTON – Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien had some good news on Monday in regards to injured linebacker Brian Cushing.

“He’ll be back for training camp,” O’Brien said.

Cushing did not participate in last month’s mini-camp and has not practiced with the squad during organized team activities. However, O’Brien is impressed with what he has been able to do during that time getting everyone else caught up.

“He’s out there every day. He’s one of the leaders of our football team,” O’Brien said. “He’s played a lot of football and played well for this organization. He’s out there taking mental reps and helping the younger guys.”

Cushing has been medically cleared by team doctors after another grueling recovery process.

“Brian Cushing is a team guy. He is a team first guy. He wants to win,” O’Brien said. “He is getting a lot of mental reps. There is not much that he can do about what ails him.”
