HOUSTON – The Houston area will once again be well represented in the high school basketball state tournament in Austin as North Shore and Yates will both be making the trip.
The Mustangs (33-3) got by Fort Bend Bush 60-58 in the Class 5A Region III final at the Campbell Center on Saturday.
“I really believe this team is as good as any team in the state of Texas,” North Shore coach David Green said after the game. “Right now we’re 33-3 and it’s not by accident, we’ve proven that we can play with anybody so we’re expecting to go win it.”
North Shore will face DeSoto (31-3) on Friday at 3:00 pm.
Meanwhile at the 3A level, the Yates Lions earned a return trip to state after taking down Navasota, 103-38 in the Class 3A, Region III final in Huntsville.
Senior guard Damion Lewis led the way for the Lions (23-8) with 25 points. He was named the game’s MVP.
Yates faces Kennedale (38-0) on Thursday at 3:00 pm in the Frank Erwin Center.
