KISSIMMEE, FL – If new manager Brad Mills is putting together a recipe for a winning season in 2010, then pitcher Brett Myers is ready to add the spice.
"I like to refer to guys like him like their hair is on fire all the time," says new pitching coach Brad Arnsberg. "He pitches like his hair is on fire and he runs like his hair is on fire."
"He brings a lighter side to the game and he allows everyone to get their work done and have fun at the same time," says pitcher Wesley Wright.
Myers was the Philadelphia Phillies opening day starter in 2008, but a hip injury that required surgery limited his play in 2009. Given all that, a healthy Myers would be a good boost for the Astros.
"Hopefully I can bring some of my work ethic to some of the guys around here," says Myers. "You know, I’m not going to be shy to get in someone’s rear end if I have to because I want to win."
And Myers showed us his sense of humor this week when asked if his dealing with off-season free agency was tumultuous.
"I don’t even know what that word mean man, you’re throwing big words at me man," says Myers. "I am just a good ‘ol southern boy man, I don’t know any of those big words. It’s not in any book I read."
It definitely won’t be boring with Brett Myers on the team this year. The truth is, he will be much more entertaining if he wins a bunch of ball games.
