HOUSTON – Houston Rockets head coach Kevin McHale was not at practice on Tuesday because of personal reasons.
Officials would not confirm what those reasons are. His return is still to be determined and it isn’t known if he will be in Portland with the team on Thursday night.
Assistant head coach Kelvin Sampson will be in charge in McHale’s absence.
“You know, Mc is kind of day to day right now,” Sampson said after practice. “Hopefully, he’ll be back tomorrow.”
“It’s kind of similar to an injured player, except it’s a little different because it’s your leader and your voice not being here,” Rockets point guard Jeremy Lin said. “Obviously, lots of prayers for him and showing him our love and hopefully he’ll be back soon.”
This is the second time that Sampson has filled in for McHale. Last year, McHale took a leave of absence from the team after his daughter passed away.
