HOUSTON – Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak on Friday talked about the team’s hard-fought overtime win against the Detroit Lions.

At his 8 a.m. post-game press conference, Kubiak praised J.J. Watt’s Thanksgiving Day performance but said the team’s defense must improve moving forward.

Brooks Reed was among three Texans to leave the field with injuries. Reed suffered an injury to his grown that required an MRI. Derek Newton left the game with an injury to his right knee along with Bradie James, who hurt his hamstring.

“The big three that we’re worried about are Brooks, Newton and James,” Kubiak said. “I probably will have no information for you guys until we come back on Monday.”

Select quotes from Kubiak:

Kubiak: “This morning, I flip on ESPN. I see Watt and Kollar arguing on the sidelines. But they argue every day, so that’s nothing new.”

Kubiak: “(You’re not as) tired when you win. I’m going to enjoy the weekend with my family...and watch everybody else beat up on each other.”

Kubiak: “Obviously, if we lined up today, we’re missing three of our four starting linebackers. (Reed, James, etc.) I mean, that’s a concern.”

Kubiak on Suh hitting Schaub in the groin: “I didn’t like it. (But I told Matt) I don’t care. You’ve still got to make the throw anyway.”

Kubiak: “J.J. Watt’s performance Sunday was off the charts.”

Kubiak: “Yesterday’s game was a big character check for this team.”
