HOUSTON – The search for the new athletic director at Rice University is heating up. Along with the traditional candidates, a new name has surfaced among the finalists. Former Rice football player and Houston businessman Bobby Dixon is said to be in the mix. Dixon was an all Southwest Conference cornerback in the mid 90’s. After getting his degree at Rice, he went on to get his MBA at Harvard. The search committee hasn’t returned calls and even though Dixon will not comment on the process, he did confirm with 11 Sports’ Matt Musil that he is interested in the job, and he interviewed for the job earlier this week. That is exciting news for former Rice players and alums, including for Owl and Houston Texan N.D. Kalu. "I want somebody that is going to stick around is going to see Rice do well because they went to Rice and that’s what Bobby Dixon brings" says Kalu. "He has a lot of ideas about keeping this program competitive because there is no reason the football team should go 10-3, then the next season just win 2 games." No timetable has been set for the hiring process.
