HOUSTON – 11 Sports has learned that former Houston Oiler linebacker Daryl Hunt has died of an apparent heart attack.
He was 53 years old.
Hunt was born in Odessa, Texas and played his college football for the University of Oklahoma where he still holds the most tackles in a career of any player in the school’s history.
He was an All-American in 1977 and 1978.
Hunt was drafted by Houston in the 6th round of the 1979 NFL Draft. He was known for his tough physical play on the field, but off of it, Hunt was considered one of the most likeable guys on the team.
Funeral services for Hunt will be held next week in his hometown of Odessa.
