SUGAR LAND – Former Houston Astros outfielder Jason Lane enjoyed a run to the World Series in 2005. Seven years later, he’s back in the Houston area, trying to get back to big leagues.

Lane was signed by the Sugar Land Skeeters last week. From 2002 to 2007, Lane suited up for the Astros, playing a key role in the back to back postseason runs in 2004 and 2005. He was traded to San Diego in 2007 and play for several teams after that.

Lane stayed in touch with current Skeeters head coach Gary Gaetti from their days with the Astros.

The Skeeters will use Lane as a pitcher and an outfielder.

"Driving into town here last Friday night, not having been here in a few years, I got that neat feeling right away when I got into town and started recognizing things," says Lane.

Through his Major League career, Lane batted .241 with 189 RBI’s and 61 homeruns. During the 2005 World Series, Jason hit a lead-off homer in the 4th inning of Game 3 in Houston. He is happy to be back in town.

"I love playing and there are certainly a lot of great memories in this city being back here and the runs we had in 2004 and 2005," says Lane. "Seeing some of the fans out at the ballpark and a lot of people kind of embraced me being back and it’s fun."
